*For Astha Mittal, the most exhilarating experience of her life is translating her thoughts into an expression on canvas. "I have been self-motivated to put down my thoughts onto my canvas to give a form to them," says Astha, an engineering graduate and a postgraduate in mass communication, who has displayed her works on the portrayal of woman in todays society - 'The Opening Show of the Novice' at the India Habitat Centre. *
Based on the theme of women's relationship with society and traditions, the exhibition has figurative abstracts in a mix of acrylic and oil.
Says the young artist "My artwork is dedicated to all those women who are forgetting their true self, as they are burdened by the torchbearing responsibility of doing the right things for the family, the society and are not being allowed to explore their own life in its varied dimensions."
She laments that the right of a woman to express her rational opinion is always taken away from her, irrespective of how educated she is. "My work is simple, as my heart goes to the women who suffer each day and still stay quiet."
"I am highly miffed by the current situation of women in our society, especially on the subject of marriage. It is the woman who is always questioned about her traditions, customs and the so-called societal obligations. Even being educated and exposed to different cultures, a woman is tied down to follow the customary nonsensical traditions. My art depicts that apathy of a woman and how she fights for her freedom of thoughts, beliefs each day," says Astha. The main inspiration behind Astha's work is her own mother. Astha says she wishes to be a 'giving, big hearted, selfless human being' like her mother. A travel and an art aficionado, Astha, was very much interested in and involved with art since her childhood as it gave her 'the sense of freedom and liberty'.
"I am fond of the smell of paint and the canvas, that gives me the liberty to create what I want to," says Astha. The exhibition is on view till July 24 at Experimental Gallery, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road from 10 am to 7 pm. Reported by Deccan Herald 7 hours ago.
