*A man and a woman have allegedly committed suicide by hanging from an electric pole at Uppoor in Belmar on Sunday. *
According to the police, the deceased are Vijay Bangera, a resident of Uggelbettu and Veena, a resident of Ammunje. It was said that Vijay and Veena were close to each other. Veena was a member of a SHG that came under Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) and Vijay was a representative of SKDRDP.
Veena had reportedly borrowed loan of Rs 1 lakh for her sister's marriage and had given it to Vijay to complete the work on his house construction. However, Vijay could not repay the amount to Veena, whose sister's marriage was scheduled for next month. Vijay had married six years ago and has a four-year-old child.
The locals said that the duo must have committed suicide having unable to repay the loan.
