*What's it about: *

Bollywood has been synonymous with animal films for times immemorial but Entertainment is one of those few films which tries too hard to push the envelope. The story begins with Akhil Lokhande (Akshay Kumar) trying to earn fast bucks in as many ways possible (read: from posing as a model for a weight loss capsule to being a back-up dancer) in order to continue treatment for his dad (Darshan Jariwala) and make sure his would be father-in-law (Mithun Chakraborty) approves of his marriage with ladylove Sakshi (Tamannah Bhatia).

But he soon comes to know that he is somebody else’s khoon, and on searching, he finds out that he is the son of a rich diamond tycoon from Bangkok (Dalip Tahil) who just passed away leaving behind his poori jaydaad. On a trail of money and a property worth Rs 3,000 crore, Akhil sets off for Bangkok only to find that his deceased father has made his loyal Golden Retriever ‘Entertainment’ (Junior) the sole custodian to his property. What follows is a madcap riot of sorts where Akhil and his friend (Krushna) scheme out different ways to get rid of the dog. But in doing so, he just gets even closer to the canine emotionally. Just when you think everything is fine, enter two villains: one from Dabangg 1 and the other from Dabangg 2 (Guess what their names are? Karan-Arjun!) and they throw Entertainment out from the mansion! Will Akhil be able to help Entertainment get back to the mansion?

*What's hot*

Move over Akshay Kumar! We have a new star. Junior, the cute canine steals the show with his puppy face and he is definitely the biggest star of the film. His little manoeuvres make your heart melt like a blob of butter. He outperforms every other actor in the frame and infuses life into an otherwise bland and OTT slapstick comedy that, as usual, lacked a potential script.

Akshay Kumar balances his role well but there are major portions in the film, where he resorts to mere tomfoolery and gets away by just being too outlandish. Definitely not one of his best performances, but the climax does bring out his Khiladi side effortlessly.

Coming to Tamannah, given her previous escapades, she betters herself in this film. Playing the drop-dead-gorgeous-glam-doll-right-from-the-Balaji-soap-sets, Tamannah marvels with those cut-to-cut stereotypical television soap liners. But there is still a long way to go before she can actually be called a ‘credible actress’.

Krushna adds in the humour element, maro-ing dialogues with every Bollywood star’s name. For example, there are lines like 'jaisi karni waisei Mamta Kulkarni' which are hilarious, bringing in that much needed laughter which prevents the film from getting monotonous and tedious.

Sonu Sood looks like a hunk and Prakash Raj is just about watchable. But the well placed Karan-Arjun sequence, making a parody of the original film, plays as some good tongue-in-cheek humour.

Even one particular scene where Darshan Jariwala breaks into an impromptu jig on ‘Agal Bagal’ with the nurse adds on to the fun!.

*What's not*

The film lacks a proper script and like most other madcap comic capers, the film uses less heart and no brains at all. Other than few emotional scenes between Junior and Akshay, which might bring back memories of your own pet, there’s nothing too praiseworthy about the plot.

While Junior definitely is the best thing about the film, the director tried to provide too much screen space to Akshay (without a proper author-backed role), bringing our interest notches below. Akshay can act and for an actor of his caliber, he could have done away with all that unnecessary hamming.

The director resorts to corny and OTT dialogues to bring in the humour. Although he succeeds with some of them, after a point, the lines became too painful to the ears.

Strong actors like Mithun Chakraborty and Johnny Lever are wasted in a film like this with not much of a screen presence. The songs are not praise-worthy and they don’t stay with you after you leave the theatre either.

*What to do *

‘Yeh film sirf teen chizon pe chalegi: Entertainment, Entertainment aur Entertainment’. There are some people who are not ‘God-gifted’ but ‘Dog-gifted’. This film is definitely for such people! If you are a dog lover, you must watch it for our little star, Junior. Else, you can just let it pass.
