*Activists and the general public have criticised the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for spending Rs 60 lakh per month for spraying odour-control solution on the Mandur landfill site. *

The spraying of solution in a big way just before Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's visit to Mandur recently also drew criticism from speakers and citizens at the 'Citizens' Convention on Garbage Crisis and Traffic Menace' held here on Sunday.

Addressing the convention, organised by Save Bangalore Committee, freedom fighter H S Doreswamy said that the CM should have visited Mandur a little earlier to see the real picture. "It is unfortunate that we are spending not just on transporting and dumping the garbage, but also on solutions to control the stench," he added.

H Raja Simha, former advisor to BBMP commissioner, said, "In Mavallipura, the BBMP has given the land to Ramky and paid tipping fee to the trucks to transport the garbage, yet heaps of garbage are lying unprocessed.

It is difficult to say which place is the worst, Mavallipura or Mandur." Senior journalist Nagesh Hegde said citizens are feeding the contractors who in turn have created the garbage mafia. Nearly 943 tonnes of food was wasted at marriage halls in the City that could easily be turned into energy, he said. Reported by Deccan Herald 22 hours ago.
