*The so-called "explosive" found in the baggage of a passenger who was flying to Dubai from the Mangalore International Airport late on Saturday night has turned to be a harmless electronic device.

At the check-in, Abdul Khader, a resident of Muttagate in Uppala town of Kasargod district, was found carrying the bag which the security personnel suspected to be containing some "explosive".

He was detained and handed over to the police for further interrogation. Police called the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad from Bangalore. The squad arrived on Sunday but found no explosive in the bag.

DCP Dr K V Jagadish confirmed to reporters that no explosives were found.
"The electronic device in the baggage raised suspicion and we took precautionary
measures. The passenger was questioned. The squad from Bangalore found no explosives. The battery of the device was damaged and had swollen. There was nothing more to it. The passenger was interrogated but not arrested," Jagadish clarified.
The daughter of Khader's neighbour had given him a parcel of books to be delivered to her brother in Dubai. A source said that along with books, a tablet computer and its battery were also packed. At the checking-in, the scanner showed the presence of a "dangerous" material.

While receiving the parcel from the woman, Khader had not asked her what it contained.
Khader has been a manager at Caliber company in Dubai for the last five years. He was returning to West Asia after a month-long vacation.

His father Mohammed M K said amid tears: "My son is not that kind of a person. We believe in God. He lives a value-based life but he was projected as a terrorist. My neighbour's daughter gave a parcel of books to be given to her brother in Dubai. We did not even ask her what kind of parcel it was. My son was leaving for Dubai after his marriage. If he is found involved in any illegal activity, he should be hanged. But do not project him as terrorist." Reported by Deccan Herald 17 hours ago.
