A 17-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by a man for refusing his marriage proposal in Bhiwandi on Wednesday. According to the police, it was a case of one-sided love.
*What happened?*
At around 6 am, a group of men who had their faces covered entered New Tadali, where the girl used to stay. First, they locked up the doors of all the neighbouring houses so that no one could get out and help. Then they knocked on the girl's door. The victim was sleeping inside with her elder sister. When she opened the door, they pounced on her and dragged her into the house. They gagged her, and then kicked and punched her. They also beat up her sister till she became unconscious. Then they dragged the girl out of the house, slit her throat and fled. The girl bled to death.
*Has anyone been arrested?*
No. The police have detained three people in connection with the case, but are yet to make an arrest. "During investigation, we came to know about her friend Dheeraj, who was a one-sided lover and had approached the victim many times in the past. We have caught him but as of now he has denied killing her," said a police officer. A case of murder has been lodged under section 302 (punishment for murder) and 449 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with death) of the Indian Penal Code.
*Victim's sister testifies*
Later in the day, passers-by noticed the body and informed the police. The body has been sent for a post-mortem. "The elder sister has alleged alleging that Dheeraj killed her sister and that she had not been going to work for the past two weeks," said the officer.
