*Honesty is the best policy, it is said. Malti Devi (name changed) also realised it, though after over two decades.

Malti, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district, about 275 kilometres from here, confessed to a theft of a pair of silver anklets 22 years after stealing them.
Raj Kumar Seth, a jeweller at Thekma Bazar area in the district, was surprised to find a 50-year-old woman sitting on a bench at the entrance of his shop on Thursday.
"The woman had been sitting quietly for around two hours and responded only after much prodding," Seth said. The jeweller was shocked when he heard what the woman told him. "I was both happy and surprised," he said.
Malti Devi told Seth that she had stolen a pair of anklets 22 years back, when she visited his shop with her relatives during the marriage season. There was a huge rush at jewellery shops then.
Seth could not recall the incident. Malti developed a guilt conscience soon after she stole the anklets.
"She told me that she wanted to come to me earlier and confess but could not gather the courage. She also feared that she would have to face humiliation," Seth said.
Malti said that she had gone near the shop several times in the past but then returned.
On Thursday, however, Malti decided that she would go to the shop, make her confession and seek forgiveness. She reached the shop around afternoon and made a confession before Seth.
Seeking his forgiveness, she also gave him a five hundred rupee note, asking him to charge for the anklets. Seth charged Rs 400 and returned the rest. Reported by Deccan Herald 6 hours ago.
