*Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya revealed that the very concept of marriage is different among the Soliga community in Chamarajanagar and even to this day, the Soliga youth blush when somebody asks them about the marriage rituals in the community.*
He spoke to Deccan Herald during his village stay at the house of Mahesh and Pavitra couple in the Soliga colony in Dhannakkihara hamlet in Mudigere taluk on Wednesday night. He recollected memories of his earlier stays in hamlets. In Soliga community, the elders marry off the couple, when a boy and girl go inside the woods together, after falling in love, he said.
In a friendly chit-chit with tribal association district President Vittal and Jyothi Vittal couple, the minister asked them how they eventually fell in love, when their complexions were in total contrast.
Meanwhile, drawing the attention of the minister towards another issue, MP Chandrappa said that the people approach politicians for monetary contributions towards various programmes in the constituency. But, the elected representatives find it difficult to contribute every time. There is a need for the people to change their attitude, he said.
Anjaneya said that during his earlier days, he, along with his associates, submitted memorandum to officials, carried out protests by lying down on the road and blocking traffic. They also met the minister concerned in Bengaluru, after a week-long waiting. But, the work was never done.
