Moradabad, April 20 (ANI): Daughters of 101 debt-ridden farmers, whose crops got destroyed in unseasonal rains, were married off at a mass marriage function in Moradabad. Farmers suffered huge losses last month when unprecedented rains and hailstorm damaged standing rabi crops like wheat and soyabean in several northern states of the country. More than 100 farmers have committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh alone after they fell into a debt trap as their crops were completely damaged. Moved by the plight of the villagers, a local legislator of Amroha district belonging to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Kanwar Singh Tanwar, organised a mass-marriage programme. Tanwar said the villagers were not being able to marry off their daughters as they suffered huge losses.
