*People can now heave a sigh of relief as the prices of all vegetables have come down. The prices of vegetables had shot up two months ago as the demand was higher than the supply.*
Festival season, starting from Ganesha Chaturthi, and marriage season, that slowed down with the Karthika month coming to an end, had spurred the demand for vegetables.
Thanks to the produce arriving in large quantities at the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) from different parts of the State, the prices have come down.
Tomato had reached its peak of Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 per crate (20 kg) last week. It was being sold at Rs 60 in retail, but it is now available at Rs 15 to Rs 20.
Bottle gourd, which was Rs five per kg is now the cheapest available vegetable at Rs 1.50. Beans is priced at Rs two to Rs five, cucumber - Rs 150 per quintal, ridge gourd - Rs seven per kg, yellow pumpkin - Rs three to four and green chilli Rs 14.
Cabbage and cauliflower available at Rs eight to Rs 12 now, were up to Rs 17 earlier.
Ramesh, a supervisor at APMC yard, told Deccan Herald that prices of almost all vegetables have decreased owing to increase in the arrival from various places including Nagamangala, Pandavapura, H DKote, Gundlupet, K R Pet and villages of Mysore taluk.
He said, the price of some vegetables like cabbage and cauliflower, which arrive from Hassan and Chikmagalur have also come down as the quality is not so good. Reported by Deccan Herald 5 days ago.
