*Refusal to marry in accordance with her family's wishes cost a young girl and her sister their lives as they were shot by their brother in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur town.*
Reports said that the marriage of the girl, Raunaq Jahan, had been fixed with a youth of the same town. Raunaq, however, was not willing to marry the youth and had made her intention clear to her parents.
It is not clear whether Raunaq was already romantically involved and if her refusal was prompted by that.
On Saturday, Raunaq's brother, Raza Khan tried to persuade her to accept the proposal but she remained adamant. A heated exchange followed and Raza took out a country-made pistol and shot at his sister from point-blank range. Raunaq, who was hit on the chest, died on the spot.
Raunaq's sister Gudia and mother Samina tried to intervene although they were unsuccessful. Raza, according to the reports, confined Samina in a room and shot at Gudia, killing her on the spot. Raza fled after killing his sisters. Reported by Deccan Herald 6 hours ago.
