Speaking after inaugurating the Udupi district unit of the Missing Child Bureau (MCB), the CEO said the introduction of MCB, an initiative from the Department of Women and Child Welfare Department would aid the possible measures in the wake of eradicating the child trafficking menace.

The district unit will keep the public updated over the actions they should take if they come across the child trafficking incident. Once the complaint is registered in the website, it will be automatically moved to the jurisdictional police station. However, the complaint should be registered as soon as possible after the child is missing.

He said around 6,537 children were found missing in Udupi district since 2010. He added that public need to be aware of the fact that complaint can also be given in Gram Panchayats and Anganawadis. MCB is currently functioning in 29 districts across the state, he added.

The department of Women and Child Welfare also organised a taluk-level workshop to sensitise child marriage protection officers over Child Marriage Act, 2006.

Speaking on the occasion, District Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Rajendra Bekal said a new rule is introduced which makes it mandatory for the organisers of mass marriage to register the names of their respective organisations with Tahsildar prior to the mass marriage programme.
