Naseeruddin Shah wants to write a tell-all book on Bollywood!
Naseeruddin Shah's memoir And Then One Day gives an account of his life till the age of 32, but the actor says he has no plans to write a continuation of his story and would rather bring out a book on Bollywood.
Published in 2014, Shah's biography spans his extraordinary journey from a feudal hamlet near Meerut, to Catholic schools in Nainital and Ajmer and finally to stage and film stardom in Mumbai. Asked whether he would write a part two, Shah said, "That was to whet the readers appetite. I think I have said all that I had to say. Going beyond this point would mean talking about my marriage, children. I don't feel like doing that. Nor do I feel like talking about movies one after another. It would be very boring. So, I dropped the idea of writing a part two."
The 66-year-old A Wednesday actor says he has been wanting to write about the Hindi film industry for a long time as he feels the need to expose the "unreal place".
"There is a lot of stuff I want to say about this industry of ours. It is a completely unreal place. These stories have to be told and I will tell them but I won't lay anything on the line, I won't stick my neck out," he says.

Boy abducted on mobile theft suspicion in Mumbai
A 16-year-old boy from Mira Road was allegedly kidnapped by two persons on a suspicion that he had stolen their mobile, police said on Monday.
PI Anil Kadam of Kashimira Police station told PTI that the incident occured on May 21, when the duo--Manikant Nilesh Thakur and Anil Shende--came to the house of the victim and took him away on a bike.
According to the complaint by the victim's mother the duo suspected that the boy had stolen their mobile. The police have registered an offence under sections 363, 323 rw 34 of the IPC and investigations were still on. The family of the boy lodged a complaint after they failed to trace the boy for two days.
http://images.mid-day.com/images/2014/nov/abuse-rep-s.jpg*Yashwant Bhalerao*
Sources in the jail department told mid-day that the complainant (who was lodged in the jail since January 30) was allegedly molested by the Yashwant Bhalerao in a cabin made for medical examination near the women’s barracks.
A jail officer said the complaint claimed that Bhalerao entered the cabin and touched her inappropriately on the pretext of a check-up. This she said happened after the doctor took a break after examining a few of the inmates. She claimed two women inmates witnessed the incident.
While the victim did not approach the jail authorities immediately, she reported the incident in April after coming to a conclusion that her complaint would avert such incidents in the future. Bhalerao has been posted at the men’s section for last two years. Since there is no female compounder available at the jail, mostly nurses assist doctors.
*Cop speak*
Jail Superintendent Chandramani Indurkar said, “The woman first informed the matter to woman jailor (group-II) S Wagh, who then informed Dr S Khan. The doctor waited for female doctor Kinalekar to return from her 10-day leave and then inquired with her about the alleged incident. By the time I was apprised of the matter (May 6), Bhalerao had already gone on his 20-day leave (starting May 2). Despite issuing memos, none of the two doctors cared to respond.”
He added that orders were issued to conduct an inquiry into the matter and record statements of the complainant, the two eyewitnesses, jailor Wagh and constable Sunita More.

Rabiya Khan had sought the adjournment saying that her petition demanding a probe by a special investigation team was pending before the Bombay High Court. Her petition in the High Court says she is not satisfied with the CBI probe and has demanded a SIT inquiry.
The Sessions court is likely to frame charges against Sooraj on 10th of June.
A vacation bench of Justices B R Gavai and Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi while staying the trial before a special women's court posted Rabia's petition for hearing on June 7.
The special court had on May 20 adjourned the trial till June 10 after Rabia sought to move the high court seeking stay in the trial pending hearing of her petition. In her petition in HC, Rabia sought SIT probe because she alleged that CBI, which is presently investigating the case, had concurred with the findings of Mumbai police that it was a suicide case and not homicidal death.
"The High Court today accepted my arguments that earlier also the trial was stayed in the case by the regular bench of HC but later refused to extend the stay. Following this Rabia approached the Supreme Court which on May 17 asked her to petition the high court again and asked HC to expeditiously decide the matter," Rabia's advocate Subhash Jha said.
"The trial in the lower court is not proceeding in a proper manner and there are likelihood of accused (Sooraj) being discharged in the case," Rabia's petition said. According to Rabia, CBI, 'due to reasons best known to it', has been vehemently opposing the appointment of special public prosecutor in the case by Maharashtra government. Jha said that investigation be handed over to the SIT as CBI has also in its charge sheet said that the death was not homicidal despite forensic evidence suggesting otherwise.
Rabia had petitioned HC against CBI categorising Jiah's death on June 3, 2013 as suicidal and not homicidal. Rabia sought the High Court to set up a SIT to probe the case afresh.
Jiah's boyfriend-actor Sooraj was arrested for abetting her suicide on June 10, 2013 but released on July 2, 2013, after the HC had granted him bail. On June 3, 2013, 25-year-old Jiah was found by her mother hanging from the ceiling of her house. As per the charge- sheet, Jiah had returned from Sooraj's house that morning, where she had been staying the previous two days.

“Her husband and the in-laws used to curse her by calling her a barren woman, as she couldn’t conceive. Every day, Vijay used to come home drunk and beat her up,” said Dhyneshwar Gaikwad, 36, her brother, who was to get married on May 26, along with his younger brother.
Vijay, after a major fight with his wife on Friday, drenched her in kerosene and set her on fire and fled with all the gold jewellery and Rs 5,000 cash. He was caught on Saturday and section 307 (attempt to murder) has been levied against him.

Officials from SGNP told mid-day that six leopards and a few wild boards were spotted on the Borivli side, while majority of the volunteers saw spotted deer.*A forest guard scans the area for wildlife at a waterhole in Yeoor range. Pic/Atul Kamble*
“We received hundreds of calls. Everybody wanted to be a part of the census so that they could spot a leopard and other wild animals. This year, we witnessed a rise in the number of calls. Most of the callers claimed they were inspired by Steve Winter’s iconic leopard image. The image has had a positive impact on the minds of people and is helping in leopard conservation,” said a forest department (FD) officer.*Volunteers lookout for the animals from a machan. Pic/Prabhanjan Dhanu*
With the overwhelming response the initiative received this year, the authorities resorted to lottery system to allot locations to the volunteers participating in the census. Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Uday Dhage said, “More than 100 people, including volunteers and forest guards, were part of the waterhole census that lasted 24 hours (Saturday 5 pm to Sunday 5 pm). We will soon compile the data from all the waterholes.”*'It scared the living daylights out of us'*
Pune: Around 5.45 pm on Saturday, we (forest guard, a colleague and myself) reached the Sambarshing point in Bhimashankar wildlife sanctuary and took our positions near the waterhole.
The moment we heard a loud noise around 8.45 pm, forest guard Chindu Dhemase sounded the leopard alert. Though foggy, we got a clear view of the big cat as it approached the waterhole. We could hear him drink. Instead of leaving, the leopard loitered around and twice came close to our hide. We assumed that the big cat had left, as we could no longer hear the rustling of the foliage around.
But the leopard returned at 9.20 pm and roared loudly before leaving. Relieved that the animal had left, I decided to take a nap. But the big cat returned and this time roared just a few metres away from our hideout, thus scaring the living daylights out of us. Around 10.20 pm we left our spot and covered three kilometres in the dark with just a stick and torch before the rescue team found us. Presence of pugmarks near the waterhole confirmed our claim of spotting a leopard when we revisited the waterhole last morning.

The bail application was heard by special CBI court Judge H S Mahajan.
In his bail application, Peter has mention that he had no problem with Rahul-Sheena relationship and also said that he liked Sheena very much.
The application has refuted several allegation made by the CBI in the supplementary chargesheet. According to the CBI, Peter was unhappy with Sheena and her relationship with Rahul since 2009 and it was this unhappiness that became his motive to enter the conspiracy to murder Sheena.

According to Rakesh Shetty, who captured the episode on his mobile phone camera, the incident took place on May 11 when the woman and her husband reached the police station for a complaint but the accused--sub-inspector Riyaz Mulani-- refused to lend them an ear.
Although the couple have not yet sought any action against the officer, Shetty went ahead and complained about the alleged assault on the woman to Kandivali Police.
His video grab shows the police officer hitting the lady with a wooden stick inside the police station premises. Shetty, a real estate professional happened to be present in the police station at that time for filing a complaint regarding the threats he is receiving from the underworld.
http://images.mid-day.com/images/2016/may/Monkey-s.jpg*The monkey’s terror has lasted two months already. Pic/Shadab Khan*
While residents are exasperated, the Forest department has somehow managed to ignore their peeves. Sharmila Vasudevan, one of the residents, said, “We have been calling the control room number, but nobody has come to our rescue by catching the monkey.”
After they lost all hope the residents decided to call a monkey rescuer. “We managed to call a monkey rescuer but he too turned us down saying the monkey can only be caught in a cage, which he doesn’t have,” added Vasudevan. While fighting for the same cause (getting rid of the monkey), this lot has also gotten divided. While the animal lovers among them want the monkey to be caught safely by the forest department, others, after a maddening March and an annoying April, just want it to be taken away. Nalini Mohan, another resident, said, “We are troubled because the monkey enters our homes, eats everything from the kitchen, sometimes rests on our sofas, our dining tables. Moreover, we are afraid that it might hurt the kids.”
Vasudevan said, “We want the animals to be safely rescued and rehabilitated. That’s why we have been behind the officials but they don’t seem to be willing to help us.”
http://images.mid-day.com/images/2016/may/Muslim-scholars-s.jpg*More than 500 people, including Muslim scholars, advocates and local leaders, were present at the program*
It was conducted on Friday. More than 500 people including Muslim scholars, advocates and local leaders, were present at the program where the ATS officials and community leaders spoke against the extremist group.
A senior officer from Thane ATS said, “The extremist group is mostly using the social networking sites to attract youths. Instead of arresting innocents who have been radicalised, we have started awareness programs in the minority areas to take a step to work with the locals. It will help decrease the gap between the police and public and also create awareness among the youngsters.”
The officer added, “Also, if any suspicious movement is detected, we can stop the youths from being radicalised. We have also asked the Muslim scholars to make announcements and speeches against ISIS during the Friday prayers.”
Dr Azimuddin Sayed, President of Movement Human Welfare of Maharashtra said, “The video and ideology created by the extremist group is destroying the image of Islam. We are fighting and creating awareness programs to change it. Islam is a religion of peace and never allows anyone to kill. ISIS does not represent Islam.”
*Families say*
The family is not concerned about the video; they don’t even want to see it. They have already forgotten about their kids. But, we will always support the [investigating] agencies to create awareness among the masses that ISIS is fake and does not represent Islam.
http://images.mid-day.com/images/2016/may/23-Mumbai-University-s.jpg*An educationist said the 60 new colleges have been finalised looking at demands for certain courses as well as requirement of certain streams in certain localities. File picture*
The registrar of the university, Dr M A Khan, confirming the new applications said, “There are total 125 applications from different organisations to begin new colleges. But as per this year’s perspective plan for higher education in Maharashtra, Mumbai has approval to have 60 new colleges. Among these, there can be 40 colleges running courses affiliated to the university such as Arts, Commerce, Science, Law, etc.”
When asked how these requirements have been finalised, Dr Khan said, “The perspective plan studies the requirement of certain courses, their demand and allows new colleges in certain streams. Last year’s perspective plan of higher education did not see the requirement of colleges. This year’s plan has opened spots for certain streams. However for engineering and Bachelor of Education course there is zero approval, considering no demand while seats in existing colleges are going vacant.” Khan also said the university strictly inspected all the applications to be forwarded to state government for final approvals.
*Certain faculties in certain localities*
Senior educationists Dr T A Shivare, Director of Hinduja College, opined, “have been finalised looking at demands for certain courses as well as requirement of certain streams in particular localities. For example, traditional colleges – for arts, science, commerce - are mostly coming up only in Palghar which is a new district, and has a big tribal population and requires basic higher education options. Law colleges are mostly opening up in city localities because students here are more inclined toward this professional course. It has become a corporate career with all companies having legal experts attached.”
A principal of an engineering college in Navi Mumbai, reacting to decreasing demand for the course, said, “The demand in engineering is anyway ever changing considering the market trends. There are years when you will see souring demand for electronics and telecommunication engineering. In some other years it will be least preferred stream of engineering. This has made it difficult for colleges to sustain successfully in striving competitions. We already are seeing colleges not only facing vacancies but also shutting down.”
Dr. Rashmi Oza, HoD of law at the Mumbai University said, “Several are willing to pursue law course. Not only with an objective of higher education, but several citizens as well are willing to learn the subject for personal knowledge. Moreover the market trend is changing. Studying law is no longer just taking up court cases or entering academics. It has taken a much corporate look compared to its age-old single career path of courtroom. Different new branches such as intellectual property rights, specialized legal departments etc. are opening up new career avenues.”*Proposed new colleges as per the perspective plan:*

Global markets dropped because of fear of rate hikes in the US in June. Commodity markets were also hit badly due to the US dollar which was strong. Key indices fell on three out of five trading sessions in the last week. Higher interest rates can drain liquidity from emerging markets including India. Nifty has strong support at 7700 and 7680 levels. Expectation of a good monsoon can lift the market sentiments. Nifty has resistance at 7802 and 7890. Weak rupee can give support to IT companies in the short term.
*Positivity*
Markets may open with a positive bias this week due to firm closing in the US. A strong recovery is on the cards due to short covering ahead of the F&O expiry. Both India VIX and S&P 500 VIX declined on Friday indicating lower volatility in the days to come.
This week will be a crucial one because of F&O expiry and quarterly earnings of Nifty giants like BPCL, Gail, Tata Steel, SBI, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, Coal India and Tata Power. Apart from these domestic cues, market participants are also closely watching the UK move on BREXIT, the proposed referendum will be tabled today
As expected the Japanese Yen weakened further and it may even continue to fall against the dollar, having support at 110.55 and 112 in the short term. Resistance for the Japanese Yen will be at 108.75 against the dollar, a weak Yen may support global markets. Though the dollar was strong, crude rallied well due to a wild fire in Canada, rebel attacks on main pipelines in Nigeria and Libya. Crude may continue its upward journey if these situations persists for some more time. Crude is likely to test $ 50 per barrel in the near term.
*GST hope*
Market participants are closely monitoring the government’s plans to table the GST Bill in the Monsoon session of Parliament after getting majority seats in Assam and with support from Mamata Banerjee, who is expected to support the GST with certain conditions.
Last weak, PSU banking stocks were hit very badly due to higher NPA and weak market sentiments. SBI is coming out with its numbers on May 26, which will give direction to the PSU Banks. SBI is seeking in principle for the Government of India to enter into negotiation with its five subsidiary banks.
Proposal of merging SBI and its five associate banks will be watched cautiously by the investor fraternity. Banking Nifty has support at 16226 and it has resistance at 16634 and 16902. Lower level support can be expected from Banking Nifty due to overselling.
SEBI has taken various measures to tighten the regulations for issuers and subscribers of offshore derivatives instruments or participatory notes to bring more transparency. In order to bring about uniformity in the Know-Your Client (KYC) and anti-laundering norms, it has been decided that Indian KYC norms will now be applicable to all ODI issuers. The new norms, while ensuring more transparency will also gradually make the product irrelevant and less attractive.
*Stock story*
Pidilite Industries closed positively on a good set of numbers on Friday; its consolidated net profit rose 89.24 per cent in the March quarter. Its standalone net profit rose 48.98 per cent.
ITC stock was in good demand after it announced 1:2 bonus shares on Friday, while IDBI disappointed the market participants, its Q4 net loss rose to 1736 crores as bad loan doubles.
The global macro economic data which will give further direction to the markets are Manufacturing PMI, Inflation from Japan, US continuing jobless claim, service PMI, Consumer confidence, US GDP growth rate Q-Q and existing home sales data from the US, unemployment rate, balance of trade, manufacturing PMI, service PMI, GDP Growth rate, unemployment rate and consumer confidence data from the Euro zone and the F&O expiry from India.

*AIADMK, BJP, the Left, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress won in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal and Puducherry respectively when results were declared on Thursday. Pic/AFP*
There was just one sectoral gainer in BSEREALTY up 2.13 per cent. The losers were led by BSECAPGGOODS down 2.27 per cent followed by BSEPOWER 1.95 per cent and BSEPSU 1.75 per cent. In individual stocks, the top gainer was ONGC up 4.31 per cent followed by Dr Reddy 4.22 per cent and Maruti 2.65 per cent. The losers were led by Bank of Baroda down 12.52 per cent followed by State Bank 7.32 per cent, PNB 5.42 per cent, Lupin 5.23 per cent and Cipla 4.52 per cent.
The Indian rupee lost 67 paisa or 1.00 per cent to close at R 67.44. Dow Jones was marginally down losing 34.38 points or 0.20 per cent at 17,500.94 points.
*Result day*
Thursday saw the results of five states being declared and two of the states had new governments with the Congress being ousted from both states. While they lost Assam to BJP, they lost Kerala to the Left.
Interestingly, they had made a makeshift alliance with the Left in West Bengal, but the alliance suffered losses. TMC led by Mamata Banerjee fared even better at the cost of the Left and returned to power with over 2/3rd majority. In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK romped home but with a lower majority than last time. Here again the Congress was in an alliance with the DMK.
Immediately after winning West Bengal, the Chief Minister to be and party leader of the TMC, Banerjee announced her support for the GST Bill. It appears the bill would be taken up for discussion and voting if necessary in the Monsoon session of Parliament.
The week ahead sees May series futures expire on Thursday, May 26. The current close as of Friday of 7,749.70 points is lower by 97.55 points or 1.24 per cent. The markets are under pressure and were weak in closing on Friday. They need to recover from these levels failing which there would be technical weakness in the markets and bears would certainly push the market down.
Cigarette and FMCG major ITC declared its results which were impressive. The company has also declared a bonus issue in the ratio of 1 bonus share for every two shares held. Shares of ITC closed at R 329.95, and were up 1.55 per cent on Friday when results were declared and 3.34 per cent for the week.
*Share games*
In primary market news, shares of Parag Milk Foods Limited listed on Thursday and had decent gains. The share against an issue price of Rs 215 closed at Rs 244.45, a gain of 13.70 per cent. There are no issues slated to open for subscription in the coming week.
Mega PSU bank State Bank of India is to declare its results on Friday, May 27. The results from this company would be keenly watched to see whether the provisions made in the third quarter was the peak or similar or higher provisions are made this time. Depending on the results from SBI, the PSU banks could get a push upward or downwards. Friday would be a key day for the markets and incidentally it would also be the first trading day of the June series.
Choppy and volatile markets to continue in the week ahead. Expiry of futures would be a drag on the markets which are currently looking tired and showing signs of weakness. Global cues and crude prices which have risen in the last few weeks could act as a further dampener for the markets. Trade cautiously.

After a short film and address about how gays were forced to undergo various treatments and therapies to ‘convert’ to heterosexuality later, the speakers invited questions from the press.
One journalist kept asking the panel ‘how’ same-sex attraction comes about. When told it was innate, he needled them further saying man-to-man was okay but what stirred attraction between women? While they were civil in their replies, it was evident this was getting their goat.
Gay actor (of Bigg Boss fame) Sushant Divgikar had even explained to the journo that he was attracted to a shirtless Hrithik Roshan, and not a bikini-clad Ameesha Patel, years ago and it was innate; there was no explanation to why Hrithik and not Ameesha.
Post the interaction, this diarist overheard them discussing the senseless volley. One remarked, “I think this man was here, just to eat the Press Club sandwiches…” another stated, “Probably, just seen lesbian porn.” And so it continued, the amusement mixed with anger and a smattering of X-rated stuff, all in the defence of diversity. Chatter over, let the curtains rise for the real deal, now.

Similarly, you’ll have many quiet years during your struggle, but there will be a day when you will see your efforts paying off well.” Well played.

This ward has quite a few reputed churches, colleges, hospitals and restaurants that draw people from across the city. While parts of the ward have been traditional Christian localities, others are predominantly Muslim - local corporators represent these demographics. But there are a few problems peculiar to this ward.
*Main Issues:*
**
*Restaurant ruckus:* People from across the city are drawn to Bandra for the sheer number and variety of restaurants there, but for the local residents this has turned into a big headache. Some restaurants make alterations to the structure illegally, and most have some sort of outdoor seating. Residents often suffer sleepless nights as they can hear patrons drinking and revelling into the wee hours. Locals have written to several authorities about this menace, to no avail. The municipal commissioner even directed ward officials to take action on encroachments, but the issue returned once again.*Locals from the Khar Danda slums allege that scrap shops have become a haven for mosquitoes and anti-social elements. *Mosquito menace:* The slum dwellers of Khar Danda aren’t getting much sleep either, due to mosquito infestation. Locals complain that there are several scrap dealers who have set up shop near their slums illegally. This allows mosquitoes to breed and thrive, leading to diseases like dengue and malaria during the monsoon. Locals allege that the scrap dealers have political clout and that is why ward officials turn a blind eye to their operations.
*Waste woes:* Residents in the posher parts of Bandra have fewer worries but are nevertheless miffed about the BMC’s apathy towards waste segregation, particularly in light of the recent fire disaster at the Deonar dumping ground. Residents said that although they dutifully separate all the dry and wet waste, the BMC does not collect them separately, as it is supposed to do. Waste disposal is already a problem for the entire city, with the dumping grounds being filled over their maximum capacity. Locals also pointed out that trimmed tree branches also remain lying on the roadside, as they are not picked up by the waste collectors.*Residents speak*

Ours is a predominantly residential area, but a lot of bars and restaurants have come up on the ground floors of several buildings. Most of these establishments have illegal additions and alterations done. The patrons sometimes drink out in the open and get into brawls. Nothing has been done about it.

*Resident of Khar Danda slums*
There are several illegal scrap dealers abutting our slum. This becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. During monsoon, the number of dengue, malaria cases rises tremendously. But officials don't take action.

In my housing society, people are environmentally conscious and segregate the dry and wet waste in separate bins. The BMC is supposed to send trucks twice a week specifically for dry waste but it doesn’t. Then how can it blame citizens for the Deonar mishap?
*Santosh Naik*
*Resident of Bandra Reclamation*
A High Court order clearly states that no bars are allowed in residential areas. We have been fighting this menace for almost six years, but these bars operate unabated. The police get bribes from them. The land is owned by MHADA and ONGC has staff quarters nearby but neither are doing anything about it. We have now complained to the ward office.
*Shehnaz Shaikh*
*Resident of Khar Danda*
Since scrap dealers started operating in our area, two to three people have died of dengue. The land actually belongs to the Koli community, who gave it out to these scrap dealers. The area has become a den for drug peddlers who consume drugs in these scrap shops.

*Robin Nath* Member of the Bandra Bandstand Residents Trust The queen of suburbs suffers from long standing problems. Promises made in the last election are yet to be fulfilled, he alleged. What is shocking is that the drainage lines in the area are so faulty that sewage spills out on the promenade. I don’t know if the slope is not correct or there is a problem with the pipes, but the sewage water spills out on our promenade at Bandstand. This is a tourist spot and so many international tourists come here but the local corporator can’t fix this? Last time, the then corporator had promised to get it done before the Assembly elections in which he was contesting. He lost and everything was forgotten.

RPF officials agreed that there is a difference in the data and added that they are working on improving the situation. But sources in the GRP said that their figures are genuine, as they have a better system in place. Sources said that both railway bodies held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the measures to tackle trespassing and also gauge the reason behind the differing statistics.*Fight to death*
The death toll is just one more thing they differ on; the two agencies have been at loggerheads for a long time over their policing roles. While the GRP takes action under the IPC in case of crimes or mishaps, the RPF is restricted to action under the Railways Act, in case of losses to railways or problems to passengers from touts, illegal ticket sales or hawkers on rail premises. There have been discussions of separating the two agencies and giving RPF powers under the IPC as well.
*GRP*
*Experience:* The Government Railway Police has been collating data on railway fatalities on both the Central and Western railways since many years.
*Method:* After every accident, the GRP is called to the spot to prepare the accident report. The GRP is the authority that categorises the cause of death in each case. “We make a detailed report of the accident that is reported to us. Our men also go to the spot where the accident has taken place,” said a GRP officer.
*Average number of deaths:* According to the GRP, on average, about 9-11 people die on the tracks every day — 3-4 on CR and 5-6 death on WR. This average is calculated on the basis of the annual total of fatalities.
*RPF*
Experience:The Railway Protection Force began recording railway deaths on the Western Railway just last year. They do not maintain any such records on Central Railway.
**
*Method:* Sources said that they decided to maintain records of trespassing deaths figure out how to better prevent it. Since last year, Western Railway has been sending officials to accident spots, where photographs are clicked and details of the case are noted down.
**
*Average number of deaths:* The Railway Protection Force started recording the number of deaths late last year. The officials will first need to collect a year’s worth of statistics to be able to calculate a daily average.

The number of trespassing deaths on WR between January and April Reported by Mid-Day 12 hours ago.

Clearly, Mumbai funnyman Sorabh Pant wasn’t a fan of nursery rhymes when growing up.
Childhood memories or not, he’s out with a video called Nursery Crimes, where he is seen dissecting the logic behind rhymes like ‘Wheels of the Bus’. If you’re in the mood for some oddball nursery rhyme nostalgia, do give it a watch.
*Chessboard mantras by Vishy*
World-renowned chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand was in the city over the weekend for an event, and from what we heard, his inspirational speech on What it Takes to Be a World Champion, had the audience all ears. He shared his journey from getting introduced to chess when he was six, until becoming a Grandmaster.
“I had to wait for three years to achieve my goal. I kept missing winning the Grandmaster title consecutively for two years but I was determined about my game; and then I managed to bag the title with sheer patience and tenacity. Similarly, you’ll have many quiet years during your struggle, but there will be a day when you will see your efforts paying off well.” Well played.

In a country where weddings are a vibrant social affair not a ceremony for the bride and groom, the couple has little opportunity to enjoy themselves in the midst of social gatherings. So what do you do when your wedding is drawing close? A just released video titled, A Guide To Indian Weddings, shows you how to have fun while at it.

Pic/Sameer Markande*

*Kaushal Bhatia*
*Resident of Bandra Reclamation*
Ours is a predominantly residential area, but a lot of bars and restaurants have come up on the ground floors of several buildings. Most of these establishments have illegal additions and alterations done. The patrons sometimes drink out in the open and get into brawls. Nothing has been done about it.
*Hemant Singh*
*Resident of Khar Danda slums*
There are several illegal scrap dealers abutting our slum. This becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. During monsoon, the number of dengue, malaria cases rises tremendously. But officials don't take action.
*
*
*Hemant Adarkar*
*Resident of Carter Road*

Dalit groom stopped from riding a horse
Kurukshetra, May 23 (ANI): Giving evidences of high prevalence of caste system in Haryana, a Dalit groom in Haryana's Kurukshetra district was allegedly stopped by an upper caste mob from riding on a horse on his wedding day. The mob not only stopped the groom from riding a horse-drawn carriage during his marriage procession but also pelted stones at police. They were against the idea of the groom visiting a temple frequented by upper caste people on horseback and wanted him to walk to the Ravidas temple in the village. The head of the village, Rajinder Singh, said some "misguided youths created the situation" but it was brought under control with the help of police.

On Day 1, Jaya shuts 500 liquor shops
*AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, who returned as Tamil Nadu chief minister on Monday, approved shutting of 500 liquor shops along with four other welfare schemes.*
Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the chief minister for a record sixth time and assumed office immediately. Governor K Rosaiah administered the oath of office and secrecy to Jayalalithaa and 28 of her Cabinet members.
The schemes approved on her first day in office included 100 units of free electricity to households, waiver of farm loans, eight grams of gold as marriage assistance (a hike from four grams given earlier) and increase of free power being provided to weavers. Accordingly, loans availed by micro and small farmers from all cooperative banks till March 31 this year, will be waived off.
This will cost the exchequer Rs 5,780 crore. Every electricity consumer will get 100 units free electricity, which would cost the government Rs 1,607 crore.
According to the scheme, 100 units will be reduced from the total electricity consumption of a domestic consumer.
The AIADMK, in its election manifesto, promised that prohibition would be introduced in a phased manner, by reducing the working hours of liquor shops, close down the bars and the shops gradually, besides setting up de-addiction centres across the state. Starting Tuesday, liquor shops in Tamil Nadu will be opened by 12 noon instead of 10 am. Of the total 6,800 liquor shops, 500 will be closed with immediate effect. In addition, Jayalalithaa also implemented the promise of increasing the free power for handloom weavers to 200 units and for powerloom weavers to 750 units. Reported by Deccan Herald 2 hours ago.

Man Utd confirm Van Gaal's sacking 48 hours after cup win
Manchester United have confirmed the sacking of manager Louis van Gaal and said that a decision on his successor – widely expected to be Jose Mourinho – will be made "soon".
Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward praised Van Gaal's "excellent work" and "great professionalism and dignity" as he confirmed the Dutchman's dismissal just 48 hours after he led United to the FA Cup.
Van Gaal said he was "very disappointed to be unable to complete our intended three-year plan". The former Holland, Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach is thought to have received a £5m settlement for departing a year early.

Van Gaal spent much of the day at United's Carrington training ground in talks over his exit, news of which was leaked minutes after United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday to win the first silverware of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
It is though that Mourinho's appointment could be confirmed as soon as Tuesday. The Portuguese has been strongly linked with the Old Trafford hotseat since his own sacking by Chelsea in December.
Woodward said: "I would like to thank Louis and his staff for their excellent work in the past two years culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club (and securing him a title in four different countries). He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best in the future."
Van Gaal said: "It has been an honour to manage such a magnificent club as Manchester United FC, and in doing so, I have fulfilled a long-held ambition.
"I am immensely proud to have helped United win the FA Cup for the 12th time in the club's history. I have been privileged during my management career to have won 20 trophies but winning the FA Cup, which is steeped in so much history, will always be one of the most special achievements of my career.

"I am very disappointed to be unable to complete our intended three-year plan. I believe that the foundations are firmly in place to enable the club to move forward and achieve even greater success.
"I hope that winning the FA Cup will give the club a platform to build upon next season to restore the success that this passionate set of fans desire.
"Having managed in Holland, Spain and Germany, I had always hoped for the opportunity to manage in English football and be part of English culture. Both of these experiences have lived up to expectations and been fantastic.
"I thank my players and wish them well for next season. It has been a pleasure to work with them and it has been particularly rewarding to see so many young players take their chance to break into the first team and excel. Sheena Bora Murder case: Court rejects Peter's bail plea a second time
A special CBI court on Monday rejected the bail application of former media baron Peter Mukerjea for the second time. Mukerjea has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sheena Bora. The judge said that the bail application has been rejected on the basis of certain facts in the case diary that cannot be disclosed to the defence lawyers.
While delivering the order, special judge H S Mahajan said: "The bail is rejected."
Peter was arrested on November 19, 2015. His bail plea had been rejected once earlier in February this year, following which he moved another plea before the court in March.
His lawyers had sought bail saying that Peter did not know anything about the murder of Sheena and he was not in the country at that time.
Rahul Mukerjea, Peter's son from a previous marriage, and Sheena were in a relationship.
Peter's lawyers had also argued that he was not against the relationship between Sheena and Rahul.
However, the CBI had earlier told the court that Indrani and Peter were unhappy about the relationship.
The CBI had argued that when Peter came to know that Sheena was Indrani's daughter, everything changed and it resulted in the murder. The agency also told the court that at the time of the body being disposed of, there was a 15-minute conversation between Indrani and Peter.
The prosecutor had also told the court that if Peter was on good terms with certain top police officers, then why didn't he help Rahul in finding Sheena after her disappearance?

3 held for murder of Malwani housewife
Bringing a five-month-old murder case to a close, the Malwani police on Monday arrested three men in connection with the body of an unidentified woman being found in the Madh area on January 9, 2016. One of accused allegedly raped the woman after she was murdered.
DCP (zone XI) Vikram Deshmane said: "One of the three accused is the brother-in-law of the deceased woman, identified as Ruby Qureshi. After getting information about the accused men's whereabouts, officers set a trap and caught them from the Malwani area. The accused have been identified as Mohammed Raees Qureshi (25), Mohammed Isaaq Qureshi (55) and Ghulam Rasool (29), who killed the woman by hitting her head with bricks."
Another police officer alleged that after Ruby died, Raees raped her. Their arrests have brought hidden facts pertaining to the case to the fore.
In January, the naked and partially decomposed body of an unknown woman, wrapped in two huge sacks, was found by locals near the Madh area. The Malwani police were probing a missing complaint filed by one Azaad Qureshi (Ruby's husband) stating that she had been missing since January 3. Qureshi later identified the body as that of Ruby and confirmed that the ornaments found on the body were also hers.
"During the probe, we learnt that Azaad's brother Raees and Ruby had regular quarrels. Ruby and Azaad had a love marriage, which was opposed by Azaad's family. Raees and Ruby often fought over this issue and Ruby also insulted Raees frequently in public. Irked by this, on January 3, when Azaad left for work, Raees, along with the other two co-accused, smashed Ruby's head with a brick, strangulated her and later — when she was dead — Raees allegedly raped her," said senior police inspector Milind Khetle of Malwani police station.
